In case you missed it... here's an inspirational new video 🎨🎬 This painting is a "sketch" or small practice piece. I plan to paint this scene much larger as a wall mural! 😉

I recently painted this wonderful treeline in the streaming sunlight at the local park. This is a plein air painting, which is fancy talk for painting outside "in the open air" with one of those funny easels. The trees and shadows caught my attention. I used my typical palette of colors:

  • 🔵 Cerulean blue
  • 🔵 Ultramarine blue
  • 🔴 Alizarin crimson
  • 🔴 Cadmium red light
  • 🟡 Yellow ochre
  • 🟡 Cadmium yellow light
  • ⚪️ Titanium white

What do you think?

He fellow painters! 🎨✨

Let's dive into the power of simplicity and how it inspires us as artists and painters. 🌟✍️

In a world filled with noise and complexity, minimalism allows us to focus on what truly matters. By embracing a more concise and direct approach, we can distill our ideas into their purest form, creating impactful and painterly art. 👨‍🎨🖼️

Whether it's a limited palette, small format, big brush, or time-limited session, simplicity has the ability to evoke emotions and spark creativity. It invites viewers to interpret and engage our work with their own imagination. 🖌️🎭

Here's a recent painting of a beautiful river scene, pursuing this concept. I used only 5 colors, considered a limited palette: ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson, yellow ochre, lemon yellow, titanium white. I used only 2 brushes, considered relatively large for this 6x8 inch gouache painting: a 1/2 inch flat, 8 round. I limited myself to 20 minutes. Short sessions are typical when painting outside, en plein air, in the rapidly changing light. ☀️🎨

So, let's hear from you! How has minimalism influenced your creative process and paintings? Have you found inspiration in the simplicity? Share your experiences. Let's inspire each other! Let's celebrate the beauty of simplicity together! 🤗💛
